Meet John Farahi — entrepreneur, civic leader, public servant, family man and founder of NewPoint Financial Services and its affiliated companies. John knew at an early age that he wanted a Western education, and so when he was 15 he left his native Tehran for London, were he studied for two years before moving to Northern California to join his older brother in Hayward. Later their parents joined them in California. John went on to complete his higher education, majoring in business. For many years, John was active in real estate, financial planning and civic affairs and he served on the city council for Reno, where he also served a turn as Reno’s vice-mayor. He was a founder of the city’s Financial Advisory Board, chairman of the Regional Planning Commission, and served on the Nevada Board of Tax and the state’s Committee on Impact of Growth and Taxes. Later the Clinton Administration appointed John to the Committee on Impact of Senior Aging on Today’s Economy. Some of the committee’s key recommendations eventually became law. John has also received awards for his public service for the YMCA, the United Jewish Congress, the U.S. Humane Society, as well as a congressional National Leadership Award.
