Hans Von Mangoldt Aachen in Online Business Directory

Hans von Mangoldt GmbH & Co. KG (HvM) was founded as a transformer factory by Hans von Mangoldt in the Austro-Bohemian border region of Lower Austria in 1941. Following the Soviet Russian invasion in the war years, the company was lost completely. In 1949, the company was restarted in Aachen in Germany, the hometown of the founders wife. Starting initially with the repair of transformers, the company increasingly turned to their manufacture. Production was mainly geared to the production of transformers for the neon sign and machine industrial sectors. 1965 saw the erection of a new building at the companys present location, the first of many extensions to follow. The companys founder died in 1966, and responsability for the companys fortune fell on his eldest son, Burkhard, at first alone, but from 1973 onwards with the support of his younger brother Ruprecht as a fellow director. In 1985, they were joined by the youngest of the family, Henning. In 1974, the company took over the production of audio-frequency blocking filters from a fellow enterprise. This was a product required by the power industry in order to block power factor correction against audio-frequency. In many local networks, audio-frequency is emitted by the utility companies, for example, in controlling energy flow. 1977 saw the acquisition of a subsidiary company, Neon Products GmbH (NP), manufacturing cold cathodes for high-voltage neon tubes. Since this product was for the same application sector as the transformers which the company had been producing since its inception, this was an ideal way to expand. In the following years, Neon Products (NP) developed into an independant company group, which today, in addition to Aachen, has manufacturing facilities in Brazil (Jundiaí-SP), USA (Dallas), Thuringia (Großrudestedt), as well as numerous sales offices both in Europe and overseas. The manufacture of all products for the neon sign sector passed to NP, thus establishing a clear delineation of production range between parent and subsidiary. 1974 saw the start of a development destined to result in a complete restructuring of the production range of Hans von Mangoldt GmbH & Co. KG. The energy crisis resulting from the oil cartel of the OPEC countries obliged electric power suppliers to demand an improved power factor from their consumers. This resulted in an increase in the application of reactive power compensation. At the same time the liquid insulation used in power capacitors for this application had been revealed as extremely poisonous chemicals following the accident which took place in Seveso, Italy. In the course of this event a legally regulated program was started, in which capacitors of this type were exchanged for foil-insulated capacitors on an international scale. Foil-insulated capacitors, while insuring an extremely low level of loss, have the serious disadvantage that they are very prone to pollution in the network. Such capacitors need to be protected by reactors in order to achieve the service life expected. HvM was fortunate enough to have contacts to manufacturers of compensating capacitors thanks to its range of audio-frequency filters, and was therefore able to suplly the expanding market with reliable and durable products right from the word go. The company has thus achieved a high degree of market awareness across the whole world, where, because of strong economic growth, power suppliers are obliged to charge their comsumers for reactive power, because only thus can the available generator output, infrastructure and network capacity meet the over-growing demand for energy without the necessity of further considerable investment. Meanwhile hundreds of thousands of reactors made by Hans von Mangoldt GmbH & Co. KG are in use world-wide. These include detuning reactors and filter circuit chokes for low and medium voltage capacitors, line reactors, commutation reactors and smoothing reactors for motor drives as well as other power electronic applications and compensating reactors. Hans von Mangoldt GmbH & Co. KG is appropriately equipped to meet the requirements which activity in the international market place and the occupation of a position of increasing importance in that market implies. A highly-motivated and experienced workforce make a vital contribution to the success of the company. The use of state-of-the-art production systems, together with self-defined high demands for quality and reliability allow customers to have absolute confidence and trust in the products they order. The management of HvM looks to the future, firmly determined in maintaining its success in meeting this quality objective.
